This piece was created during an art challenge. I contemplated the process that most of us go through at some point in our lives. To find a better version of ourselves many times we go through turmoils, rising up transformed into a more beautiful and complex version of ourselves. This piece also expresses the desire to rise up and accept the challenge in front of us.

Before the Rooster Crows
A very dear friend of mine showed me a cover of a magazine picturing spices. The colours were amazing! I wondered what bird could I paint that would use a similar pallette. I came across a photo of this beautiful rooster. The intricate details and different combination of colours and textures on his feathers inspired me to paint him.

Peacock – Eyes of God
I always loved peacocks. I was mesmerized the few times I saw one open their feathers in front of me This majestic bird has been painted numerous times over the centuries. There is something about its colours and design that reflect the majesty and creativity of our creator. Peacocks sometimes are used to depict the all knowing, all seeing God, because of the deign on their feathers which are similar to eyes.

Born in Brazil to a French father and a Brazilian mother, Daniela always enjoyed painting and drawing. She was mesmerised by her mum’s talent and would often just sit and watch her paint. One particular painting made a huge impression upon her. It was of a beautiful parrot on a glass panel alive with blazing reds, deep blues and intense greens …
